Design Thoughts:
- I wanted to design something that you might see in the LDS Friend magazine because that is the kind of work I would like to do in the future.
- I wanted to create a grid, so I took quotes by Spencer W. Kimball about the Sabbath and divided them up into three parts and found images that matched each part. I put the images into three rectangles and created a curve pattern with the images on the grid. Then I put the quotes next to the image they went with. The curve pattern of the quotes softened the grid and helped your eyes follow the pattern and read each quote in order.
- I used a gradient adjustment layer on the background and used the gradient's color on the text to create cohesiveness in the design. I used a separate color on some of the text to create contrast and to highlight words I wanted to stand out.
Photoshop:
- I made three rectangles that lined up on one side of the page, and then I filled each rectangle shape with an image so I could adjust their size and placement in the rectangles.
- I moved one of the rectangles directly left so that it still maintained contact with the other two rectangles at the corners to help create the grid.
- I placed each of the quotes next to its matching image. I adjusted their size so they would fit in the boxes created from the placement of the rectangles.
- I used the same text and drop shadow on all the words.
- The words in the quote are different sizes according to what I wanted to emphasize. But I still wanted a cohesive look so I didn't change them too drastically. I also italicized some of the words for emphasis.
- I added a gradient adjustment layer to the background layer, and then added another of the same gradient to make the background a darker color so the words would stand out more.
- I used the eye dropper and made the text at the top the same color as the gradient's blue color, and I made the text at the bottom top the same color as the gradient's white color to create cohesiveness in the design. I changed some of the words to a complementary color to emphasize those words.
Text Font and Images:
- I used one font called "The Bold Font." It is from 1001 Free Fonts. https://www.1001freefonts.com/the_bold_font.font
