- I wanted to make an activity for my website that helped children understand that prophets foretold Jesus' birth. I decided to make a title and five prophet circles that children could attach to a hanger to make a mobile. The above page is the title and two of the cards.
- Color: I used a burgundy color which is a shade of the primary color red and a gold color which is the secondary color yellow-orange. The gold and burgundy contrast nicely.
- Alignment: I used a center alignment for the title and repeated it on the prophet cards.
- Proximity: Each prophet's name is on the bottom of its matching picture.
- Contrast: The burgundy color contrasts with the gold color and makes a good border and background on the cards.
- Repetition: I repeated the colors gold and burgundy on all the cards and on the title card. I also repeated the text font, the text background shape, and the circle shape on each of the prophet cards.
- Font: I used the script font Luminari on the prophets' names and the serif font Cooper Std on the title card. The letters on the title card have a thick weight which makes a strong bold title. The two different types of font used in the project have different structure which provides contrast.
Photoshop:
- I created a style for the background of the title card. First I added the filter texture Cracuelure and adjusted the crack spacing, depth, and brightness. The I added a color overlay which brightened the burgundy. Lastly I added a stroke, bevel/emboss, and an inner shadow and then adjusted the settings on each one until I had a soft, dark, raised edge.
- On the title words I added a yellow inner glow and a bevel/emboss to brighten the words and make the words pop out. I adjusted the settings on each one.
- For the circle cards I copied and pasted images into circles. Then I added a burgundy and a gold stroke around the outside edge and lastly a bevel/emboss to match the title sign.
- I added a white rectangle at 52% opacity to the bottom of each of the circles to use as a background for the prophets' names.
- I added a prophet's name to each of the rectangles and made them have a lower arc of 27 so they would arc up around the inside of the circle. Then I transformed the rectangle and stretched out the edges until they matched the curve of the names.
